Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) is a blood test that measures the amount of AFP present in blood.Usually is part of what’s called a triple screen or a quad screen in second trimester of pregnancy.Non-pregnant individuals have some AFP in their blood, but the levels are normaly low.Levels of AFP that are high can indicate certain types of liver or other organs disease.This test can help and monitor certain liver conditions such as liver cancer, cirrhosis and hepatitis, but it can also help detect other cancers like cancer of the biliary tract, stomac,pancreas, testes, ovarian cancer.
